Home Energy Advisor

Our Asset Management team is looking for a home energy advisor to join their Sustainability team.

Activities: You will be required to assist the sustainability advice officer in tackling fuel poverty and promoting energy efficiency and environmental sustainability to residents. You will also perform simple home energy surveys and give advice to residents on how to manage fuel bills and heating controls. In addition, you will also answer queries from residents via telephone, email and in person and compile information about home-energy-related issues, sustainability activities and achievements. Other work includes helping to coordinate contact with residents, including booking advice sessions and sending out report and keeping  databases up to date.

Requirements: Basic IT skills, including MS Word, Excel and email. A polite manner with good organisational skills. The volunteer will also need to have a good telephone manner, listening skills and have the ability to communicate objectively and effectively with a wide range of people and work within professional boundaries.

As well as being punctual and reliable, it's important to have an awareness of the difficulties faced by those who are socially isolated and vulnerable and/or who have special needs, as well as the ability to be understanding and sensitive.

Location: 45 Westminster Bridge Road, London, SE1 7JB

Hours: Volunteers will be required for 1-3 days a week, between 7-21 hours. The placement will last for 3-12 months. Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer.

Receptionists - Pembury

Our Community Development team is looking for two receptionists within our newest Community Centre at Pembury.  They will help support with basic admin duties, receptionist cover and help to provide a welcoming and professional reception service, greeting visitors, answering the telephone, dealing with enquiries and booking some appointments.

Activities: You will ensure that visitors to the centre sign the visitor's book where necessary, provide general office duties including filing, photocopying, envelope-stuffing and make sure that publicity is in good order.

There will be occasional work on documents using Microsoft Word and helping with ad-hoc duties when the Pembury Centre hosts special events.

Location: Pembury, E8

Hours: Volunteers will be required for 2 days a week between 9am–5pm; the placement will last for 3 months. Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer.

Literacy Bookworm

Activities: As a Bookworm, you will meet with families and assist at sessions through arts & crafts, storytelling and other fun activities. You will also deliver outreach in communities to promote the importance of reading and assist the Project Coordinator with recording families’ progress. 

Requirements: You should be punctual & reliable with the ability to be understanding and sensitive as well as being confident in reading and writing. Show an interest in working with young children and have good organisational skills, commitment to work with three families and have a willingness to learn

Location: Peabody Estates within Hackney, Tower Hamlets, Islington, and Westminster

Hours: Volunteers will be required for a minimum of 1 day (3 hours) a week for a 6week period for each Book Club. Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer and the projects. Each session will last two hours and the volunteer will dedicate at least this plus preparation and monitoring/reporting time per week.

Reading from the Start Administrator

Activities: You will be required to assist the literacy project with general work such as mail outs to the community, data entry, answering queries from the public via telephone, email and person to person. 

Requirements: Good listening skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of people, organised, punctual, friendly, basic IT skills, ability to be understanding and sensitive, good telephone skills and a willingness to learn.

Location: Peabody Estates across Islington, Hackney and Westminster
Hours: Volunteers will be required for two days a week between 10am – 4pm. The placement will last for 3months. Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer.

Transfer Specialist

Our Residents Services Team is looking for volunteers to provide assistance to Peabody households by using various external transfer systems. To enable these selected households to register on suitable systems and familiarise them with the use of these systems.

Activities: You will work with residents who have low to medium support needs to register on external systems and help them to take necessary actions where appropriate. You will also be required to manage multiple cases simultaneously using SMART planning to schedule tasks as well as general befriending and emotional support of clients who might be facing one or more of the following issues: mental health problems, difficulties with family responsibilities, isolation due to age, disability, ill health and language or literacy barriers.

Requirements: Each Transfer Specialist will need to demonstrate the following attributes;

  • The ability to communicate effectively on the telephone, in person and in writing
  • A commitment to maintaining professional boundaries when working with people who are disadvantaged and vulnerable
  • A commitment to helping households take control of their transfer requirements
  • Ability to prioritise workload

Location: Peabody Office, Walworth Road, 116 -118 Walworth Road, London SE17 1JY

Hours: You will be required for 2 days a week for 4-7 hours each day. The placement will last for a minimum of 6 months. Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer.

Coffee Morning Assistant

Our Community Development Team is looking for a Coffee Morning Assistant to support their weekly coffee morning for parents at the Pembury Community Centre.

Activities: This role is a chance for parents to meet other parents, find out what is going on in the area and plan activities together. Sometimes guest speakers are invited to the session and the group sometimes take part in craft activities or workshops together. Young children are usually present in the group. We want to recruit a volunteer to help support this group, your duties may include preparing activities for the group, printing of sign in sheets, preparing refreshments and being able to talk and offer signposting support to parents in the group.

Requirements: Be organised, punctual, friendly, comfortable working in a setting with early years children present, approachable and patient, with good listening skills and a willingness to learn

Location: Pembury Community Centre, 1 Atkins square, Dalston Lane, E8 1HL

Hours: Volunteers will be required for 1 day a week between 9:30am – 1pm on Thursdays. The placement will last for a minimum of 3 of months

Marketing & Research Assistant

Our Community Investment Team is looking for a Marketing & Research assistant to support them within our Sundial Centre.

Activities: This role involves volunteering within our Sundial Centre. You will assist with updating the monthly newsletter and other materials promoting Sundial Centre and updating the website newsletter as instructed.

Requirements: Good computer skills and attention to detail is required, have a willingness to learn new skills and a commitment to working as part of a team. Good verbal communication skills to communicate effectively with internal and external customers. Good creative skills along with good organisational skills and a good telephone manner and be punctual and reliable.

Location: Sundial Centre, 11 Shipton Street, London E2 7RU

Hours: Volunteers will be required for 2 days a month between 10 – 2. The placement will initially last for 4 months. Hours are flexible and negotiable to suit the volunteer.
