Children play tug of war at a Peabody fun day

Our exciting programme of activities focuses on improving physical activity levels, healthy eating and mental wellbeing.

Big lotter

Activate London, our wellbeing programme funded by The Big Lottery Fund, brings an exciting programme of activities to your neighbourhood.

These are about inspiring people to get active, eat more healthily, learn new skills and discover new opportunities.

Since 2007, when we were awarded £4.6m from the Big Lottery Fund, we have helped improve the physical and mental wellbeing of more than 61,000 people across the capital.

In 2012 The Big Lottery awarded us a further £1.8m to continue the programme over the next two years.

Our current Activate projects include:

  • Community Activators
We train local people to act as "champions" for wellbeing in their community, and we help them develop activities for local people. From Zumba to bingo, cooking classes to toddler groups, we can provide support and funding to make it happen.

  • Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds
We support a range of projects aimed at young people, encouraging healthy eating, exercise, and better mental wellbeing. We also train young people to run their own projects. .
  • Reconnect
This programme supports people's mental health, developing personalised programmes to help them to get back into employment and other activities, including volunteering.
  • Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities
This free 13-week programme is for parents with children aged 2–18. The course aims to increase people’s confidence and skills in parenting, and to achieve a positive change in family relationships.
  • Wellbeing roadshows
We visit communities across London, offering advice and information on how people can improve their wellbeing, and we give a taster of some Activate London projects. We also tell them how they can get involved in our community programmes, such as Net Worx, which offers free computer classes.
  • Wellbeing through encouragement
This project targets isolated people and encourages them to get involved in creative activities to help improve their physical and mental wellbeing.
  • Young Leaders United for Health and Wellbeing
These courses train young leaders to help other young people make the right decisions and choose healthy lifestyles.

We lead Activate London with housing association partners including CBHA, Circle Anglia, Southern, Metropolitan, and Family Mosaic.
