This time last week I attended the opening of a new community centre and free WiFi service on our Whitecross estate in Islington.
The event was a great opportunity to catch up with local residents and staff as they celebrated the opening and enjoyed a range of Activate London activities.
The new WiFi service has been funded by EC1 New Deal and is available to all residents free of charge. Those who don't have a computer or laptop can simply pop along to the community centre and use one of the new computers.
This work is all part of our 21st Century Peabody vision (PDF). It's about providing 21st century homes and services that meet the needs of current and future generations. But it's also about tackling problems of deprivation, low skills and worklessness and creating sustainable and vibrant communities that are truly integrated with their surroundings.
